JdF Preparations

1.  Doug sent out the following schematic for the wand design:

  • Pete had some questions about wand height and how adjustable it might be in a rocky, uneven environment.  We will get the pilots involved in these discussions.
  • ISMS--Charles still working on it.  They will send to us by the end of April, if not sooner.
  • Berthing:  Who is going on the cruise is still TBD.  Harvard would like 3 berths (2 male, 1 female)--if there is room Dan Rogers might like to go.  There was also suggestion to bring Karen Loyd for the ride (if room).  Bill U. is working on this list and we will discuss at next week's science meeting.
  • do we want Pete's mass spec temperature logger?  Yes.  He will ship.

 Adaptive Sampling

Brent has created a simulation and provided a great demo of the code that triggers on certain contextual thresholds.  He rec'd some input from Science on some tweaks.  Yanwu returns next week, and he and Brent will work together to put Yanwu's code into Ruby.

M0 Spring Deployment

  • Chris and Roman making excellent progress
    • MOE will have reagents by end of today
    • MFB gets mated on Monday
    • QC tests next week
    • Week of March 21 we'll test adaptive sampling
    • Can on April 1
    • Deploy April 7
  • There was some discussion of the Zephyr also deploying another instrument at M0, using our cruise.  Will check on this.

 WHOI Deployment

  •  All systems moving forward.  Turner Calvis is the guy to contact at UCONN regarding divers.  Roman is on this.
  • We have selected site #3 as our deployment site. 4.3nm offshore and 113 ft depth Lat - 43.0347   N; Long - 70. 6172 W
  • Notice to Mariner info has been given to Mike Kelly.  He is waiting for contact person from WHOI in order to submit.

D-ESP

  • DWSM has been reassembled but not torqued closed for high-pressure testing.  We've ordered our own set of tools for that.  Also found that the empty switch in the sample can does not work.  This will need replacing, but high-pressure testing can continue before tearing everything open again.  Must be careful not to squeeze the bag empty.

 Drifter

  • Will have a meeting of Brent, Scott, and Gene on Monday, 2pm.
